Femina is owned and operated by two fabulous, fun-loving ladies that live in two incredible cities: Philadelphia and New York City. We regularly service the tri-state area and are also available (and love!) to travel for destination weddings.
We have shot in Martha’s Vineyard, Texas, Florida, the Pocono’s, Costa Rica in 2013, and even as close to home as Long Beach Island! We are travel bugs and are always looking for opportunities to travel to new places. On a personal level, we have been to twelve countries collectively (and a majority of the States in the U.S.)!
*We are also available for complete Destination coverage that may include documenting excursions, rehearsal dinner, all day wedding coverage and a day after session. If you are interested in having the Femina Ladies join you throughout your Destination wedding journey, we would love to hear from you!
For weddings within 90 miles of our cities, there is no travel fee. For weddings over 90 miles, a travel fee may include nominal costs for gas, tolls, mileage, lodging, etc. For Destination weddings that require airfare and lodging, this may be negotiated into the package total. Since we are a female team, we can save on costs by sharing accommodations! Contact us for a personalized travel quote.
For New York region sessions, there is no fee to shoot within NYC or Long Island City. For Philadelphia sessions, there is no fee to shoot within 15 miles of the city limits. We do realize that sometimes our couples have a “special place” in mind for their shoot or a family with a newborn does not want to travel, so we certainly accommodate these requests as well. Travel fees include nominal costs for gas, tolls, mileage and an additional block of time. Fees are charged in 30 mile increments. Please contact us for more details.
Typically we schedule multiple sessions in one day since availability is limited (especially on the weekends). We are able to accommodate our client’s busy schedules by reserving two-hour time blocks in one day in the same general area. If we are required to travel outside the city limits, we are unable to schedule other sessions during that time so it limits our overall availability. There are also very specific times of the day that we want to shoot in order to be able to get the best light so this may interfere with these carefully timed appointments.
A lot of people ask us this question and we do not have a specific dress code. In fact, we prefer that you are not dressed “matchy-matchy”. It looks much more natural and candid if the outfits are not matching exactly. This however does not mean that the outfits can’t be complimentary or color coordinated. You can choose a color-scheme (such as pastels, or bold colors) or complimentary colors to make it more visually appealing. We recommend not wearing bold patterns or large logos as they tend to stand out most. Small patterns and stripes are fine though. We LOVE pops of color too (an accessory, shoes, belt, hair band, etc).
You are welcome to bring props, however, we do recommend discussing this with us beforehand so we know what to expect and can come prepared with our own ideas as well. If you choose to bring additional outfits, we recommend only 2 outfits total (one full outfit change) because often it takes some time to get into a groove with shooting and making our couples feel comfortable. So bringing many outfits can disrupt this flow and not allow us to get as many different kinds of scenes and photographs that we want to provide for you. Also keep in mind that you must come prepared with a specific place in mind to change. A great way to change it up is to bring a jacket or sweater, different shoes, start with your hair down and pull it up, bring a hat, etc. There are many ways to be “creative” with your outfit changes without having to find a place to change.
Yes, our approach is to have two different perspectives and styles that will capture the day in every way possible. Having two photographers not only provides additional perspectives but also guarantees a form of insurance for our couples. We’ve found that this method is especially crucial if anything were ever to go wrong with someone’s equipment, etc.
We’ve heard way too many horror stories and don’t want to take our chances with just one photographer being there! Whether we are shooting together or with a second photographer, we always shoot with highly trained and qualified second shooters.
If for any reason one of us is not available, whether it is because of a serious illness, hospitalization, death, etc., we are very fortunate to be a part of many photography organizations and photographers groups in our area. In this case we would reach out to our extensive group of connections and find someone of the same skill level and style to fulfill the missing person’s shoes. As photographers, we join these groups with the expectation that our services could be needed and that we might have to step up to help a fellow industry partner, so we are confident that many photographers would step up to the challenge and support us as well. Some of the organizations we are members of include The PPA (Professional Photographers of America) and The Photo Betties (a group of professional women photographers in the Tri-State area).
Yes and Yes. We are Canon shooters and are well equipped with all of the latest equipment and technology needed to be professional photographers along with back up equipment, batteries and plenty of memory cards! We also have liability insurance, which most wedding venues require from vendors using their facility. This proof of insurance can be sent to the venue via email or fax by request.
Weddings are the type of events that many people book at least a year in advance. So in order for us to guarantee that we will block that day for you, we require a desposit and in exchange we sign a contract legally binding us to you and your date. Our deposits are not an additional fee on top of the package price, it is simply a percentage of the balance that would be due for our services anyway – typically 30% of the selected package total. For Portrait sessions, we require a 50% deposit of your session price to secure a day and time for your shoot.

In shortened terminology the Webster definition of photojournalism basically translates to news photography. Now, while it’s quite obvious that we are not news photographers or shooting “The News”, the term has loosely become related to Wedding Photography in recent years because it has opened up a different approach to shooting on the day of the wedding. Back in the day, due to the limitations of equipment and film it was a very mechanical process in shooting weddings, and a lot of the events of the day would have to be staged or posed. When technology advanced and photographers began to expand creatively, it became clear that photographers were able to photograph the day in more of a “fly on the wall” point of view. They could now be unobtrusive and photograph the events as they unfolded rather then yell things like, “Ok now stop right there and smile at the camera!” We have some very influential photographers to thank for this new revolution in Wedding Photography.
For us personally, we have adapted this “fly on the wall” strategy and try to be noticed as least as possible on the day of the wedding, except when we need to be more present and assertive, like during family formals, etc. And with our distinct commercial and design influences, we aren’t just shooting to document the day, we are also shooting in a way that we know will lend itself better to the design of the final products and wedding album. So in conclusion, this photojournalistic style allows us to shoot candidly in order to tell the story, in our own way.
As you can see just from looking through our site, we have slightly different styles of processing of our images. This is mainly because we really try to hone in on each couple’s personal style that they have brought to their wedding theme. There are things about every wedding that can correspond to the photographs and how they are processed on the computer. Whether it is very bright and bold color schemes or a very whimsical and vintage-y feel to a wedding, we have the expertise and ability to incorporate these unique processing styles to each wedding. It truly comes down to us learning about you and what your vision is for your wedding day. We are open to listening as well as educating our clients on how this process works so we can make sure that the end result is total satisfaction!
