Aside from our packed schedule of weddings, boudoir shoots, family portraits, and baby sessions this April, I had the additional pleasure of learning from one of the most talented photographers in the wedding industry, Cliff Mautner. Cliff is known as being among the top 10 Wedding Photographers in the world, an international spokesperson for Nikon, and a heavily awarded WPPI photographer in photojournalism. He’s the “it” guy in the wedding biz. And as luck would have it, Noelle has a close relationship with this grand [photo] master after having had the opportunity to work under him for some time. After meeting Cliff a handful of times, listening to his seminars at WPPI and the PDN PhotoPlus Expo, I was quickly able to learn that when it came to harnessing natural light – especially HARSH natural light – he’s the guy to go to. So without hesitation, I signed up for his Lighting and Skillset Bootcamp ready to soak in every bit of information I possibly could.

Cliff warmly welcomed us into his studio and treated his business, skills, and life in general as an open book for us fellow photographers to carefully page though. After mornings of yummy breakfasts, “lectures” and demonstrations, we were taken to Washington Square Park in Old City, Philadelphia (my old stomping ground) for some on-location shooting. Learning to distinguish between quantity and quality of light was key, and once you understand that, it gives you an entirely new perspective on shooting and “seeing” the light. To say I learned a ton would be an understatement. I could go on and on, but instead, here are some of the images from the week…
