Katherine and Lee’s NYBG Stone Mill wedding was a quintessentially perfect NYC summer day. We love any opportunity to work an event at the stunning New York Botanical Garden in the Bronx, NY. We especially love the quaint and rustic vibe of a NYBG Stone Mill wedding. Set right along the Bronx River, the Stone Mill, originally known as the Lorillard Snuff Mill, is the oldest existing tobacco manufacturing building in the U.S and was built around 1840. What really makes it unique is that its set in the middle of the largest botanical garden in the U.S. The NYBG is known as a “living museum” with over one million living plants. That makes this location a photographer’s DREAM. You can imagine the endless opportunities for photographs and couples portraits. The Stone Mill specifically offers access to the Rose Garden, the Cottage, the Azalea garden and more!
Katherine and Lee’s wedding day started downtown at the Andaz Hotel on 5th Avenue. It is also conveniently located directly across the street from the New York Public Library. So that’s where Katherine and Lee opted for their first look. Even though it’s a very popular and busy location, we have all the tips and tricks up our sleeves! So we took them to a more secluded little spot for an intimate first look and then joined their wedding party for portraits on the front steps.
You may have heard that you need a permit to shoot at the famed NYPL, but that is only for the inside. Wedding couples and parties can take advantage of the steps for photos, as long as they are not disruptive or blocking the entrance. So we always try to be as respectful as possible when shooting there. Luckily for us, the whole crew was amazing. Katherine even surprised everyone at the end of the night by singing during the reception! Be sure to check out their video highlight below and see why we absolutely loved their day!
